Yummy, yummy, yummy I've got prunes in my tummy!

We had a great visit last week with my mom, and Oscar paid his first visit to the dirty Jerz for my cousin's wedding. He was, of course, a model baby - he slept through most of the ceremony and was happy to be passed around by all of my relatives, many of whom were meeting Oscar for the first time.

Our boy also had his 4 month check up last week. He weighed in at 15lbs and was 25.5 inches long. The pediatrician expected him to be a little bigger, but he wasn't worried. Dr. Jones said that it is one of two things: either his growth is just normalizing (he's in the 80th percentile, down from the 90th), or he's just ready for solid food. A week prior to his appointment, Oscar began waking in the middle of the night, ravenous, and he's been "tasting" everything in snatching distance, so he encouraged us to start on some pureed fruit. Oscar is skipping cereal because his poop shoot already moves pretty slow. The doc thinks the fruit will bulk him up and get his bowels moving, and that he should start sleeping through the night again (which he did last night.)

After four nights of food, we think he's got eating from a spoon figured out. He didn't love the applesauce, but he devoured the prunes! And I swear, he ate more than he's wearing! He just got so excited about eating, that he started diving for the spoon with such ferocity that it got everywhere!

I'm crowded! Roll over!

Oscar rolled over for the first time today, from front to back! He did it three times, and he was so excited about it. I'm not sure which one of us was more surprised when it happened. I immediately put him back on his tummy to see if he could do it again, and he did! I'm so proud of the little guy.

So, last week my dentist attempted a root canal, and after an hour of drilling decided I needed to see a specialist. Today, I visited the endodontist (root canal specialist!), and after one and a half hours of drilling, he was unable to find the canal and I have to go back in two weeks so he can try again. I am not a person with dental anxiety, but wow did I almost have a break down today. He used THREE different drills, and each one sounded creepier than the last. And the smell of burning tooth as he drilled was really awful. He drilled for so long I'm surprised I have any tooth left. I'm so sore!

Nelson had Oscar all afternoon, and it was a marathon for him. The little guy decided he was not going to nap all day, so he was awake and fussy for daddy. But the did enjoy a nice loooooooong walk to Lake Artemesia and back. Little O-man just went down at around 4:30, and mommy is soon to follow.

Little flea

Oscar is officially ticklish! Our new favorite song/game (Mommy tickling Oscar while singing in a high-pitched voice):

On my toes there is a flea
Now he’s climbing up on me
Past my belly
Past my nose
On my head where my hair grows

On my head there is a flea
Now he’s climbing down on me
Past my belly
Past my knee
On my toes
Take that you flea.

We took Oscar on his first trip to the zoo this weekend. The sloth bear was a no show, but loved the prairie dogs and the orangutan. We were there for about two hours and he was WIDE awake the whole time. He was in his stroller most of the time, but he demanded to be carried toward the end, which was great because he got to get much more personal with the orangutan.

For those that haven't heard, as of last Thursday I'm officially a stay-at-home-mom. So far, we've had dates with mommy friends at the arboretum and mommy and me yoga. We have a busy week ahead of us - visiting Nelson at work, going into DC, mommy and me yoga - should be a great way to kick off my new career!
